Volunteer Opportunity - Ironman 70.3 Happy Valley

We are looking for kayakers, canoers and SUPers to help at this year's Ironman 70.3. On Sunday, June 30, we need 65-70 boaters to line the race course at Sayer's Lake to help keep the swimmers safe and on course. Paddlers should be experienced in flat water paddling, and be able to remain calm and focused during the race. The race is held rain or shine, Last year, the lake was calm (no wind), but the swimmers do create a wake as they swim by in masses. You need to keep your vessel in position as much as possible. There will be swimmers who will hang on to your boat to catch their breath for a few seconds/minutes, and swimmers who will veer off course (we guide them back on course). Instructions and video are provided in advance, and on the morning of the event, there is a safety meeting. Safety gear (whistles, flags & buoys) is provided, as well as hot coffee, refreshments and daily launch permits (for those who don't have one). Safety meeting starts at 5:30 AM (for those farther away, you may want to consider camping at the park the night before),
with boats getting into position at 6:15 AM. Boaters are finished before 10:00 AM and may want to take advantage of the beautiful lake by having a leisurely paddle after the race.

• After you click the box for SWIM SUP KAYAK CANOE, scroll down to the bottom, where it asks if you have a boat or need one, it will also ask you to read the waiver and sign it. If you don't complete all fields, it will not go through.
