RESCHEDULED: Susquehanna River Paddle Trip – Amity Hall (Juniata R.) to Dauphin

  • August 29, 2021
  • 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • 53 River Road, Duncannon, PA
On this date in August, forget the twisty-turny local (and crowded) favorite Yellow Breeches and opt for majestic sweeping views on the longest and largest river on the eastern seaboard – the Susquehanna River. Well meet and arrange a shuttle on the Juniata River just above Duncannon at 10 AM on Sunday, August 29 at the Amity Hall PFC ramp/parking area (53 River Rd., Duncannon). If you prefer, navigate to this dropped pin on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/5wq5nH2kuqRRq9er6). The shuttle is 8.7 miles to Dauphin Boros take-out (for those of you unfamiliar with this site, another dropped pin: https://goo.gl/ maps/W7bU5jvcAaqf4FUZ7). After conducting the shuttle, enjoy a 9-mile float in your canoe or kayak down the beautiful Susquehanna River, navigating the occasional ledge, exploring islands and multiple river channels, chatting up a storm with SSC buddies youve not seen for a long pandemic year, and spotting Bald Eagles, Great and Snowy Egrets, Ospreys and Great Blue Herons by the dozens as we go. For those interested in further socializing after taking out and collecting vehicles left at the put-in, we can try to snag a table or two on the deck at Dauphins Stoney Creek Inn. Since were putting in at a PA Fish & Boat Commission Ramp, current unpowered boat stickers are a good idea to avoid those pesky fines. You can obtain yours online at https://huntfish.pa.gov/. This paddle trip is being organized by Pam & Len Neidig – if you have any questions, call or text Pam at 717-507-7196 or pam.neidig@comcast.net, and Len at 717-756-9828 or lneidig@comcast.net. If river conditions merit a change in route, look for an email blast from SSC no later than Thursday, August 26.
