THE SUSQUEHANNA SKI CLUB, a descendant of the Harrisburg Ski Club, was founded in 1963 by a small group of AMP employees and incorporated in 1967. We are currently one of the most active and successful ski clubs in the Northeastern United States. Our main objective has always been to promote the sport of skiing, but we have recognized snowboarding as a growing snow sport and now welcome snowboarders into our membership ranks. SSC provides fellowship and goodwill among participants in snow sports, encourages development of areas where the sport may be enjoyed, furnishes instruction for skiers/boarders and potential skiers/boarders, educates skiers/boarders in the safety principles of skiing/boarding, organizes and conducts competitive events, and organizes additional recreational and social activities off the slopes as well. FOR nearly 30 years, our Learn To Ski Nights at Ski Roundtop have attracted many people to a lifelong interest in the wonderful world of snow sports. Our Skier Development Program is designed to encourage progressive improvement of skiing techniques and will include snowboarding as interest grows. We help make skiing and snowboarding more affordable and frequent through the sale of Night Club Cards and Advantage Cards. SKI trips have been offered since the inception of SSC. Our Trip Committee researches our annual trip destinations and makes recommendations for all skill levels, income levels and vacation availability, with trips around Pennsylvania, New England, Western USA, Canada and Europe. We have also run trips to Australia and Chile! OUR membership is kept informed of Club functions through our monthly newsletter called Chairlift Chatter, monthly membership meetings (held at the Susquehanna Club in New Cumberland the first Tuesday of the month) from September through March, and of course, here on the Club Website. BEHIND the scenes, 13 elected volunteers serve on the Board of Directors, meeting every month to manage the Club's affairs in accordance with the by-laws. In addition, countless members volunteer their time on various committees to ensure the success of our social events, ski trips and programs throughout the entire year. Oustanding service to SSC is recognized by the Gold and Silver Ski Awards. To date, 36 Gold and 84 Silver Ski Awards have been presented to Club members who have devoted years of service to make SSC a successful organization. During the course of our history, we have enjoyed a special and lasting fellowship unknown in most organizations of this type. The Susquehanna Ski & Snowboard Club will continue to serve and provide many benefits to its members. |
