Let's Go Hiking @ Ricketts Glen State Park

  • May 24, 2015
  • 8:45 AM rendezvous for possible carpool/caravan at Pilot Travel Center, 30 Benvenue Road, Duncannon

We will meet at 8:45 am at the Pilot Travel Center located about 6 miles north of Dauphin along Rte. 322. If you use your GPS to find the Pilot, put in 30 Benvenue Rd, Duncannon. The Pilot has a Subway Restaurant if you want to take a sub or sandwich.

The plan is to leave from the Pilot at 9:00 am and drive to Ricketts Glen. We should arrive about 11:00 am. The hike is 3.2 miles and will take a few hours.

Once we arrive at the park, we will get maps at the Ranger Station, park the cars near the trailhead and start our hike.

For those of you who prefer to drive straight to the trailhead instead of meeting us at the Pilot, here are the GPS coordinates for the trailhead:

N 41° 19.80'
W 76° 17.44'

We will hike down the Highland Trail and the Glen Leigh Trail and enjoy all 21 waterfalls ranging from 11 feet to 94 feet.

The scenery is well worth the effort, however, the terrain is rocky, can be slippery and wet, and descends steeply on both the Ganoga and Glen Leigh sides. You should be in good condition, wear good hiking shoes, and bring a hiking stick or old ski poles, water and food.

Where the waters meet, we will take a lunch break, then hike up Ganoga Glen side trail back to the cars.

On the way home, a stop is planned at Skeeter’s Pit BBQ, which is in Shamokin Dam and overlooks the Susquehanna River.

Any questions, call Dave Timothy at 717-979-4236.
